Arsames is a Persian melodic death metal band from Mashhad, the second largest City of Iran, originally formed in 2002 by Ali Madarshahi.[2] Arsames had changed line-up many times, Vocalist and first drummer Ali Madarshahi is the only original member who has remained.[3] The Origin name of the band, Arsames, came from the name of one of the kings of Persian empire during the Achaemenid dynasty.

The band play heavy metal music despite it being illegal in Iran and, according to the band, considered satanic by the government.[2][4][5]

History

Arsames originally formed in winter of 2002. They record their debut single "Adiposere" in 2005 in their home studio which was in brutal death metal genre. In 2006 they released an unsigned studio album (Cyclopia) digitally. The album got positive regards by the fans specially on myspace.[4] A second download-only album, Homo Sapiens, was released in 2007.[6]

In 2007, Malaysian documentary-maker Zan Azlee interviewed the band as part of I'm Muslim Too!, a documentary on youth in the Middle East.[7]

In 2008 Arsames joined a band contest at Metalcamp 2009 in Slovenia and they received the most votes. In July 2009 Arsames performed at the Unirock Open Air Festival in Turkey with bands like Arch Enemy, Kreator and Amon Amarth.[6] They 've got many positive reaction from fans and critics as they addressed Arsames as Iron Maiden and death of Iran.[6]

2010 was a busy year for arsames, in April they played at Metal Asylum in Dubai.[3][8] Arsames released their first signed album, Immortal Identity, containing eight tracks.[9] In November Arsames headlined a metal festival named 'Sikkim Fest' in India.[2][10]

The band's lyrical themes include Persian history and mythology, and they describe their music as "ancient death metal".[5][6]

In july 2011, Arsames announce that they will release a cover EP, entitled Persian Death Metal Tribute to Warriors Of Metal through the summer of 2011.[11][12] ARSAMES has released a new video for “Immortal Identity” song on September 2nd, The video was directed by Sorena Afkham o Shoara, and was produced by Ali Madarshahi. The booking agent and promotion manager of Arsames Mohsen Fayyazi said:

The lyrics of this song were written in honour of Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Persian Achaemenid Empire that he and his historical signature define the national identity for many Iranians. Cyrus the Great respected the customs and religions of the lands he conquered and he was the first one who wrote rules for Human rights! This song is really special to band
